Ocean Bloom

Underwater Noise, Non-human communication, Semiotic assemblage

Sandipan is fascinated by the links between the role of soundscape ecologies and our understanding of a multi-species future and 'shared' environment. Man-made underwater noise acts as a series of disturbing, unfamiliar and uncomfortable events which are presented as a challenge to overcome the human/non-human divide. Stimulated by the idea of being trapped in a sonic storm, this iteration of Ocean Bloom presents a site specific spatiotemporal composition of light and sound which allows visitors to explore the politics and practices of listening to more-than-human worlds.
Ocean Bloom is developed in collaboration with Sebastiaan Smink (composition) Boris Acket (scenography) and 4DSOUND, Amsterdam

Ocean Bloom is made possible by the generous support of Creative Industries Funds NL, Stroom Den Haag, Fonds Kwadraat, Grey Space in the Middle and v2_Media Lab for the Unstable Media
